As I have talked to cancer survivors about joining Living Proof Exhibit, I often get the same reaction..."what I do isn’t really art." My response is always, "does it make you happy? Have you found joy or peace in creating or doing something with your hands?"
Cancer has changed our outlook on life and whether it is knitting, painting, photography or wood carving, our expression is different than that of someone who has not undergone cancer diagnosis, surgery, chemo, radiation and recovery. Sharing our story through art, song, or laughter is an important part of our journey. Personally, I believe we need to share in order to help others as they face their own cancer challenges.
Art has always been a part of my life. I love to perform, build, paint and photograph. I am thrilled to be co-founder of Living Proof Exhibit and honored to be surrounded by so many strong, giving, loving creative people who donate their time and talents.
If you are a cancer survivor, any kind of cancer survivor, I hope to meet you in one of our Living Proof Exhibit art classes or to see your work on display in our 2018 exhibit at the Figge. The call for entry application is located on our website. If you have any questions, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
